The reflection

Before discovering that I would become a father at 31, I had a distant perception of faith. Maybe there was not much of it in me. I have always considered myself a very rational and logical person, and for a long time I saw that as something almost opposite to faith.

In my religion, we are called to love the Creator and His Son above all things. But how do you love and have faith in something you cannot hear, cannot see and cannot even smell? Sometimes I believe I have felt the presence of the Holy Spirit. In some prayers, I still feel something similar. Even so, it has never been as clear to me as the air I breathe.

Then I found out I would be a father. I started imagining a life with someone who did not yet fully exist to me, someone who was still only a group of cells in formation. I started loving someone I still could not see, hear or touch.

Of course there was scientific evidence, the blood test confirming the existence of that life. Even with that proof, this event made me think about the relationship between fatherhood and faith. Before you were even born, you had already brought a world of good things. At the same time, you showed me what it might truly mean to have faith.
